N.E. Microbiome Institute is a multidisciplinary scientific institution focused on microbiome research and education. Our work combines peer-reviewed evidence with expertise across microbiology, immunology, genetics, biochemistry, infectious disease, clinical laboratory science, and related disciplines to produce rigorous, accessible scientific content.
Our Mission
To advance understanding of the human gut microbiome through research that is developed by scientists, reviewed by scientists, and published in full.
Gut health is one of the most actively researched areas in medicine and one of the most poorly represented outside of it. Findings reach the public stripped of method, dose, population, and funding source. What is left is a claim with nothing behind it.
The N.E. Microbiome Institute was formed to close that gap. We are a multidisciplinary research team: professors, PhDs, bacteriologists, board-certified medical laboratory scientists, and research assistants. Our combined expertise spans antimicrobial resistance, genetics, biochemistry, immunology, infectious diseases, bacterial physiology, anatomo-physiopathology, bacteriology, mycology, virology, parasitology, advanced microbiology, public health, and biostatistics. That expertise was built in the laboratory, in research, with patients, with data, and with the organisms themselves.
Every topic we publish begins with a structured literature search. A member of the team develops it against the published evidence and their own professional experience. A second member reviews the work before release. Conflicts of interest in the source literature are flagged. Where the evidence is limited or contradictory, we state it.
Our vision
Within five years, to be a reference institute in microbiome science: producing our own lines of research, training the professionals who apply it, and keeping the general public in direct contact with what the field actually knows.
Original research. Our current work is structured review and synthesis, conducted to a defined search protocol. The next stage is research we originate: questions the team defines, methods the team designs, data the team generates. An institute earns citation by producing evidence, not only by organizing it.
Professional education. Clinicians, laboratory scientists, dietitians, and researchers work at the point where microbiome findings meet a person. We intend to build formal training for them, taught by the same team that develops the research and held to the same standard of evidence.
Public access. Scientific knowledge loses its value when it circulates only among specialists. Our publications are written so that a reader outside the field can follow the finding without losing the method, the population, the dose, or the limitation attached to it.
The front of the field. Sequencing depth, strain-level resolution, culturomics, and modelling are changing what can be measured and how fast. Remaining current with those methods is a working requirement of the institute, not an ambition.
Five years from now, we intend the work of this institute to be cited, taught, and read.

Bacteriologist and board-certified Medical Laboratory Scientist MLS(ASCP)CM with professional experience across clinical diagnosis, research, and laboratory microbiology. Leads the N.E. Microbiome Institute research team in developing peer-reviewed microbiome science into structured educational content and evidence-based gut health programs.

Bacteriologist with full-scope training in laboratory medicine, molecular biology, epidemiology, public health and research. Specialist in diagnosis and interpretation of laboratory results, with experience across clinical diagnostic settings and research laboratories. Research in antimicrobial resistance and the human microbiome.
